Perfect Manhattan
One of the finest classic cocktails, The Perfect Manhattan Cocktail is surprisingly easy to make but also varied as to what some consider perfect.

Ingredients
- 2 ounces rye whiskey
- 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
- 1/2 ounce dry vermouth
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
- 1 lemon twist
Instructions
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice to about three-quarters full, then add the rye, vermouth, and bitters. Stir with a bar spoon until the contents are ice cold.
- Strain liquid into two cocktail glasses and garnish each with a lemon twist.
Notes
Shaken or stirred? For this cocktail, I enjoy the chill that comes from shaking, but I prefer the appearance of a stirred drink.
To achieve this, I place my glasses in the freezer for about 10 minutes before preparing the cocktail. Then, I stir the ingredients with medium-sized ice chips.
