Hawaiian Chocolate Pie
Crushed pineapple flavors half the filling, chocolate is added to the remainder for a really new flavor combination in a pie.

Ingredients
- 1 9- inch baked pie shell
- 1 #1 can crushed pineapple about 1 cup, Very well drained!
- 1 1/3 cup granulated white sugar
- 1/2 cup All Purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups milk
- 3 slightly beaten egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 squares unsweetened chocolate about 2 ounces
- 3/4 cups chopped nuts
Instructions
- Drain pineapple very well and set aside.
- If using frozen unbaked 9-inch pie crust shell or premade unbaked pie crust, bake as directed on package.
- Combine sugar, flour and salt in a heavy saucepan. Add milk gradually to saucepan, blending well. Bring to boil, stirring constantly. Cook over medium heat until thick.
- Add a little of the saucepan mixture to the yolks, mixing well. Then pour the yolk mixture into the remainder of the hot saucepan mixture. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Blend in butter and vanilla to saucepan, then divide the mixture half (into 2 parts).
- Stir drained pineapple into half of saucepan mixture. Cover. Cool to lukewarm.
- Blend melted unsweetened chocolate into other half of mixture. Cover. Cool to lukewarm.
- Chop ¾ cup nuts finely. sprinkle half of the nuts over the baked pie shell. Spoon in half of the cooled chocolate mixture over nuts. Cover with pineapple mixture and then with remaining chocolate mixture. Take remaining nuts and sprinkle over pie. Cool completely. Serve with whipped cream.
